Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Balehonnur was started in the year 1986, in accordance with the National Policy on Education (1986) by the Government of India. It is a co-educational residential school fully financed by the Government of India through an autonomous organisation, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS).

The objective of JNV is to provide good quality modern education to the talented children predominently from the rural areas, without regard to their family's socio-economic condition. JNVB is located at Seegodu, Balehonnur, Chikmagalur Dist, a picturesque place dominated by coffee estates.
